History
Surf Office was founded in 2013 by Peter Fabor, who previously worked as a user experience designer, as an experimental side project, with the first location being established in Gran Canaria, Spain.
Peter said "I couldn't find a place where I could work, live and surf", and so established Surf Office as a place for freelancers and remote workers to bring these elements together. Since its establishment, Surf Office has changed its offering of focusing on a place for freelancers, remote workers and entrepreneurs with a strong connection to surfing, to focus on facilitating and hosting company retreats, taking on companies of all sizes, and less of a commitment to surfing.

Company Retreats
Surf Office host company retreats as a means for companies to work from a new location with a change in routine. They have hosted dozens of company retreats with many clients, including Stripe, WordPress, Toptal, and Upwork.
During a company retreat, Surf Office will offer living space, working space, meeting rooms, high-speed internet, bookings for local restaurants and bars, team-building activities and trips out such as surfing, whale watching, mountain biking, and cooking.
They will also assist with the work element should the company wish, helping with goals, brainstorming and strategy sessions, strengthening team bonds and offering a PR package. All of this is geared toward increasing a company's productivity.
Surf Office are currently only focusing on company retreats rather than a place for individual remote workers or freelancers, making their offering different to competitors such as WeWork who focus on co-working spaces for individuals or companies.
"The majority of people with a nomad lifestyle I know are contractors or have a regular job", says Peter. He has also said that Surf Office may consider expanding their offering to include individuals again, but they have no plans for this in the immediate future.
Meetups
Alongside company retreats, Surf Office also hosts meetups all around the world. The purpose of these retreats is to grow the Surf Office community, and bring freelancers, digital nomads, entrepreneurs, and remote workers together for talks and networking.
Currently they have hosted meetups in 10 cities around the world, including London, Berlin, Prague, Barcelona, Hamburg, and Zurich.
